Background: The IGS "First Immigrant File" was started by
the Immigrant Genealogical Society for its members. It is now
open to all genealogists, without a IGS membership requirement.
It is based on one simple premise -- to index the
head-of-household of an immigrant family first entering the
United States.
How to Get More Information: If you see the name of a
person in the First Immigrant File Index about whom you wish
further information, send a fee of US$5.00 and your request to
the postal address above. They will xerox the submission form
for that entry, including the name and postal address of the
submitter.
How to Submit your own First Immigrant Ancestor: If you
wish to submit your emigrant ancestor for inclusion in the File,
copy the following form, fill it in and mail to: Immigrant
Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 7369, Burbank, CA 91510-7369, USA.
There is no fee for submitting your information. You may submit a
separate entry for the first immigrant on each ancestral
line.
