Database Contents: This IMAR database is not simply the
index you see on the two files linked below. It includes such
helpful information as each person's surname, the birth name (for
women), the person's given names, date of birth, sex, the archive
file number from which the information came, residence/home town,
the amt (court district) in which the hometown lies, occupation,
marital status, related persons mentioned, destination, the
source of information and the year of emigration, if known.
Using This IMAR Mecklenburg Database:
- Using the name of the archive and file number, you may
secure copies of the original documents for an individual.
- Because most of the persons desiring information about the
Mecklenburg emigrants do not live in Germany, IMAR has made an
agreement with the Immigrant Genealogical Society for their use
of the database to provide information to Americans seeking that
information.
- The IGS volunteers can search the database for the full name
of your emigrant ancestor. You should supply information on age,
hometown, occupation, year of emigration, etc. to help us
identify the correct person.
- If IGS can identify your ancestor, we will print out the
information in the 17 fields of the database for you and provide
instructions for ordering copies of the originals.
- If there is more than one person with the same name and we
can not identify your specific ancestor, we will print out a list
for your evaluation.
- We will give instructions for ordering copies.
- Requested donation to IGS - US$10.00.
- There are now (as of late 2002) ovr 20,000 files in the IMAR
database
